Welcome 2010

A little late in welcoming the new year but here I am! Things that have happened since my last post:

- Bought new Christmas ornaments for next year at Target. I got them in white and jewel tones... very cheerful looking.

- Spent my last gift card and with it, purchased my very first pair of skinny jeans... Is there like an age limit to wearing them? I hope I don't look ridiculous in them.

- Mike calls skinny jeans "Harry Potter jeans"... I don't know why.

- I also bought lots of cute new undies hee hee

- Celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary yesterday. We had lunch at Seasons 52, which we have never been. Other than that, nothing special :(

- Today we used our brand new standing mixer to make chocolate butter cookies, as usual, they turned out delicious.

- Speaking of cookies, I think they'll go great with my tea. I have completely given up coffee and I now drink decaffeinated tea with cream and sugar, I really like it!

- The weather is amazing, it's been in the 50's these past days... love love love

- Made scallops for dinner for the first time today... they were so good! How can we be such amazing cooks? ;)

December

I'm running kind of late in my December blogging, oops! Not much to report though. I tried looking back in my blog posts to see what was going on around this time last year and I didn't even talk about Christmas! I guess I just wasn't in the mood for it. We didn't even put up a tree last year, so that explains a bit.

Mike came home from work with our tree on Monday and it's all set up and decorated :) We still have the same ornaments we bought a few years ago... I hope next year we can have a different color scheme, something more colorful. Right now it's gold and red hues, I mean it's nice and elegant looking, but we can't have the same every single year now can we?

I'm also excited about Christmas because we are hosting it at our place. I mean it's only Mike, his mom and me, but still. It'll be the first time we do it. We're thinking about making a prime rib roast, scalloped potatoes, a fancy salad and for dessert, individual chocolate molten lava cakes. I haven't had pumpkin pie since thanksgiving but I had pumpkin pie ice cream from Jeremiah's... it was SO good! I might make a pumpkin pie as well, I haven't had enough this year.

I made another set of ornaments for the shop, so go check them out, there's still time to get them before Christmas. I also have my Christmas cards sealed, stamped and ready to mail. We still have some shopping to do, but hopefully we'll get it done this weekend. Anyway, my shop needs new illustrations, so I'm off to keep cutting paper and sketch. Good luck with all your holiday preparations.

Twenty Seven

I had a great birthday weekend. Even the weather was perfect! We went over to my mother in law's house Friday and Saturday. I always feel spoiled when I'm there, it's like a mini vacation. We went to see an antique car show that was going on in Lakeland, around the lake Mike and I got married. Later on we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, where I had some delicious flautas.

Today I had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory with my friend Candice and also did a bit of shopping. Later this evening we all went to see Where the Wild Things Are. I thought it would be better and Mike thought it was better than he thought it would be, so I guess overall it was ok...

Since we haven't been home this weekend, Mike still owes me my birthday cupcakes, which will probably be the last carbs I'll be eating in a while, we definitely broke our diet this weekend. So yeah, nothing crazy or extravagant this birthday, but I was surrounded by loved ones. And not only this weekend, but lately I've been feeling pretty damn happy, I guess I could consider that an additional gift :)

Back to normal

Sorry I haven't been updating, but I had guests in my house for the past 3 weeks. First my friend Paola from Cancun, then my mom was here for 2 weeks, who just left today. I'm feeling a bit sad because I don't know when I'll get to see her again.

We were able to go to Miami, just like my mom wanted. We went with Paola and another friend of hers. We drove around South Beach and spent most of our day at the beach. At night, we went to a place called Bayside, where we walked around listening to live music while enjoying some cold mojitos.

For the most part, we just hung out at my house and went to shopping centers. She cooked some Mexican food for me like pollo con mole, tinga and chicharron en salsa verde, it was all so good! She also brought with her some tamales and queso panela.

This past Monday I took her to Leu Gardens and this weekend, we met up with my mother in law and her boyfriend to have dinner at PF Changs. I had a good time with my mom, I just wished I could have taken her to more places. Now it's time to go back to my regular routine and keep looking for a job.

Me and my mommy :)

Candy Andy

This is the little "portrait" I did of my friend Candice for her birthday. We had a good time in Miami... beach, laughs, chocolate cake, tapas and sangria for dinner and a club called Mansion. I want to go back already.

So...

I've been looking for a job. I took a test to possibly work for the US Census Bureau. I need to call them and see if they have a job for me. I also applied at Target and emailed my resume to a job I found on Craigslist, to work at a lab at UCF. We'll see what happens.

I drove for the first time by myself today. I went to the post office. When I got there, I realized how nervous I was because my heart was beating really fast. I made it back home safely though. One day at a time.

Tonight, I went out to dinner with my friend Erica and a few other friends of hers, it was her birthday! We had sushi and one of her friends payed for all of us, that was so nice of him!

I made a new painting today. It's a kangaroo with her baby...I'm not sure if I like it yet, I'll post it as soon as I scan it or take a photo of it. Mike is already in bed reading, and I want to join him tonight, last night I got caught up playing Sims 2 and didn't get to read in bed, so good night!

I forgot the tail...again

I painted a baby monkey, but I forgot to paint his tail! So now it only looks like a bear-mouse creature thingie. It's the second time I forget to paint the tail on a monkey...ugh.

Not much going on here. Hubby and I have been researching prenatal vitamins and I think we finally agreed on a brand. I need to research insurances also, yuck, a bunch of grown up stuff I'm not used to.

Last night, I went out to a nice dinner with the Mr. and people from his work. We went to K Restaurant Wine Bar, it was quite lovely and very delicious. I even had a tiny buzz from all the wine he he.

Ok, I'll get back to my morning routine of coffee and reading blogs. Buen dia!

Mi cumpleaƱos

Hubby and I baked my birthday cake Thursday night, it's chocolate cake with pink cream cheese frosting, yummo!

Yesterday I went to Isabelle's first solo art show with Candice. Isabelle takes awesome pictures of dolls, they show so much emotion, sometimes they seem real. My favorite doll is one with blue eyes and white hair.

After that, Candice and I celebrated my birthday by going to The Cheesecake Factory in Winter Park, originally we had planned to go "clubbing" downtown, but honestly, I just wasn't in the mood for that, I really am over that whole scene I think.

Today we are most likely going over to my mother in laws house and spend the weekend there. She usually makes me my favorite meal.

The past few days I had been feeling in a crappy mood, probably because of PMS and migraines. But I feel truly happy with my life right now. I feel blessed and I'm thankful for everything and everyone in my life right now. I can only hope next year will be as good as this one... I have the feeling it will be.

A good day!

Do I need to say more?

My lovely mother in law came to spend time with me today. We went to the Florida Mall, Ikea and then had dinner at PF Changs. Then we went to the supermarket to pick up some ingredients to make coconut cake. I was able to use the new cake stand I bought at Ikea. It came out pretty good, the frosting is very sweet.

We might go see a movie before she heads back home tomorrow. I'm also making her some french toast for breakfast, made with challah bread. I'm excited, hubby comes home tomorrow, yay!

Almost over

I only have week and a half of school left and I'm done with this semester. I feel like I can't focus because I'm too excited thinking about my trip to Guadalajara.

I have to make my book for the Illuminated Book class, you know like cut paper, get paper printed, sew folios together, make a book cover and all that stuff.

I also haven't finished shooting for my photo class and my final critique is on Wednesday. I did however already buy foam core because I want to mount them, I just find it easier to handle or put up on the wall for critique that way, hopefully I don't ruin them in the process.

I have to paint 2 more paintings for, yup you guessed it, Painting class. Then I have to photograph them and put the prints in a portfolio, he cares more about that stupid portfolio than the actual paintings.

Then I'll just have to study for my art history final and off to Mexico!

In other news, today I hung out with Candice, we went to Target, then met Richard for lunch. We discussed God, Jesus and aliens, and our religious views. It was interesting, we all pretty much share the same beliefs, which is a whole other post. I did not get school work done today, well maybe just figuring out the pagination for that book, it's been so hard to figure out! I needed a break anyway.

I went to dinner with the hubbster to Urban Flats, it was our first time there. We met up with an ex coworker of his. The food was good, at least what I had, which was the turkey, pear and brie flat. Yum! I'm already hungry again.
