Would you...

jump in the icy cold water of a pool for 5 minutes? Would you do it for $50? Because well, I totally did a little while ago. Mike has been taking cold showers for some time now and yesterday he decided to go jump in the cold pool. It was freezing, but he did it. Today he planned on doing it again, but this time, he asked me, what it would take for me to do it too.

I said $50... he then walked away (I should have followed him, to see where he got it from) and came back with the 50 bucks. I should have said $100... to late. We finished watching our tv show, then he went and changed into his swim trunks and asked if I was going to do it. I told him only if he was really going to give me the money. So I changed into my bathing suit and off we went to the pool, all bundled up.

Once I got there and touched the water, I really didn't think I could do it, it was freezing! I think I waited for about 10 minutes on the side of the pool, getting wet from the light rain and shaking from the coldness, before deciding to actually jump in. Once I was in, I just had to keep on moving, my whole skin felt all tingly and numb. Mike said the water was even colder today than it was yesterday, even though the outside temperature was warmer today.

So there you have it, I did it! Easiest $50 I've ever made, haha. Some benefits of cold water therapy include: keeping your blood pressure stabilized, stimulating the body to release endorphins, improving the body’s immune system by increasing white blood cell levels, etc. I'm sorry, but I'll do it again only for money, Mike can be the healthy one in this marriage :P

My point exactly...

Setting: Sunday afternoon, looking at a free magazine picked up at Whole Foods.

Mike:
This magazine is all new agey...

Me: Well, you're kinda of new agey too...

Mike: No I'm not! I make fun of those people... Oh! I just remembered, I found a good new age station last night, can you turn it on?

Any way... We finally bought some grass fed beef and made some delicious chili with it. Mike also wanted to buy raw milk, but I drew the line with the non homogenized, it's actually very good and creamy! How was your weekend?

PS. Mike asked if they sold brains at Whole Foods... enough said

You must really like someone's blog when...

you have dreams where you are friends with the authors. I just remembered I recently had a dream where I met Holly from Decor8. It was so cool, we were hanging out at some trendy event and later on, she even came to my house and met my parents. I was asking her for decorating advice on a budget... so typical of me!

I also had a dream a long time ago of Emily from The Black Apple. We were just driving around and talking, I think I asked her how she got started with her business or something like that. I really do wish I knew them in real life though, they are totally the kind of girls I would hang out with, they are both such an inspiration for me. Is this perhaps just a sign that I need more friends in real life? Hmmm...

Good news!

I finally got a job! I will start training to be a U.S. Census taker in about a month. It's kind of funny how things work out. I applied for this job almost 2 months ago. It was one of the first jobs I applied for in the beginning of my job hunt. And so far, it's the only one I ever heard back from.

The other funny thing is that it will practically force me to learn how to drive better, which I'm nervous about, but what better way to learn right? It will all take place around my neighborhood too. It's only an 8 week job but I'm ok with that.

It seems like every time I start to loose hope, something always comes through... coincidence? maybe, but it helps to know that if you think positive and ask for things, it will happen in it's given time. I have a good feeling about this, it sounds kind of fun.

Take Two....Action!

Ok, you know how I said I was going to a birthday party yesterday? So this is how it went: we go to our friends house to carpool with them, get to the party, we ring the doorbell, we hear no party noises, we wonder if we are the first ones to arrive, no one is answering the door, finally a guy opens the door, confused looks all around, he asks us if this is some sort of surprise, we say no, birthday boy actually invited us, we go inside (holding our beer and bag of chips and salsa), no one is there, more confusion, birthday boy comes out of his room looking confused, we then find out he told us the wrong date! The party is actually today. It was pretty hilarious, but completely awkward, I've never been in a situation like that. So later tonight, we'll be trying that again, hopefully this time, we hear some noise before we even bother ringing the door bell.

53° F

One of the main reasons I hate Florida so much is the stupid hot weather. Now that it's nice and chilly, I'm not enjoying it. My hands are so cold that I can't type for too long. I'm also trying to work on my little paintings, but I have to take breaks to put my hands somewhere warm, which FYI, happens to be my crotch or under my legs. I look quite ridiculous actually, wearing two sweaters that don't match, jeans, thick socks, my pink pig slippers and a blanket over my legs. I'm hungry but I don't want to ruin my little set up. Can someone bring me hot goodies please?

Sunday

So after my glorious day of getting my license, not much has happened. I helped my friend Candice move a couple of days.

I also received my first Etsy purchase from artandghosts. I'm so in love with her work! I bought penny farthing and sally antoinette. She forgot to mail one of the prints, but she'll be sending it soon. I also received a 5x7 print of proud sally as a free gift! I was so excited, because that one was another one of my favorites.

We had some friends over for dinner on friday and they brought their dog with them. And well, how should I say this... Lily humped their dog Jersey! It was so funny! I thought Lily didn't know how to hump!

(Click on image to view larger...stupid blogger)

I've been in the worst holiday mood ever. It's as if I stopped "believing" in Christmas. All of a sudden, I feel like I forgot the whole meaning of it. It kind of sucks, I've never felt this way before. I haven't even bought anyone presents and I probably won't either...ok maybe my parents, but they'll be late.

Today I decided to steam clean the carpets. We also moved some furniture around a little bit. It feels so clean now! Then Mike pissed me off...but we won't get into that. Ok, everyone be good and have a great week, it's almost Christmas for those feeling the holiday spirit!

Alone again

I feel like I've been busy lately, doing what, I have no clue. Hubby continues with his boardgame obsession, so we play a boardgame or two almost everyday. He left this morning for Utah, he'll be back on Friday.

My mother in law was with us this weekend. She got here Thursday night and left Sunday morning. I made meat loaf, mashed potatoes and green beans Friday night and fettuccine Alfredo on Saturday. We also watched an HBO mini series on dvd called Five Days, did a little bit of shopping and played boardgames of course.

I finally got my new phone, and because t-mobile makes everything extremely complicated, I had to get a new phone number as well.

Yesterday, we took our little Lily to the dog park again. She had a great time as usual, we even saw another sheltie. It was pretty funny because, we went on a little walk in a trail and she was ahead of us, all of a sudden we see two shelties walking towards us, we thought there was a mirror in the middle of the woods!

That pretty much sums up my weekend. My lonely week will be filled of crappy food, tv, reading and hopefully getting some paintings done. Here's another little painting I wanted to share.

My dream last night

This is what I dreamt last night, bear with me, it gets a little weird and random at points. I think all of it took place in Mexico, because most of my family was there, even Lily.

Part I: We were in a house/old supermarket kind of building, when we saw a gator inside, we tried escaping but Lily was left inside somewhere in the building. I was hysterical, I just knew she would get eaten by the gator. For some reason I couldn't go back in there and get her so we left. I was extremely upset. Other things went on that I can't remember, but at one point, one of my family members did go back to get Lily and she was still alive. I was so happy to see my little baby.

Part II: I was in Cocula and it was night time. I had a little girl, about 3 or 4 years old. We went outside and there was a procession. The people carried candles and Dia de los Muertos type decorations. My daughter and I joined in the procession. I remember I was so excited for her to see all this, I kept asking her, do you like this? and she would also be excited, to see all the candles and people and would respond; yes mommy, I love it!

Later we found my mom in the procession and she introduced me to some distant relatives. They were 3 teenage girls, but I noticed they all were missing 2 or 3 fingers on their hands. I remember thinking the cause of that might be that they practiced charreria. After that we ran into hubby, I was really mad at him because I hadn't seen him all day, but he was helping out one of my cousins or something. There was also lots of firecrackers and I was trying to protect my daughter from getting burned by one.

Part III: My family was all gathered inside the house, talking about flights and parties. I didn't have a little girl anymore, but instead a little boy. My little boy and I were looking at some wooden spoons, and talking about the day we broke some of ours while cooking. We were having an amazing time, laughing and just being silly together. End of dream.

This dream left be feeling so happy. The times when I was with my daughter or son, I felt so much love towards them, or a feeling I can't even explain. I wonder if my motherly instinct is finally trying to break in? I remember thinking, this feels amazing, I've never loved someone this much. I don't really know how to talk to young kids, so I was surprised how easy it was to talk to my own, it wasn't awkward at all. This dream left me all emotional. I tried to explain to my hubby the part about my kids, but I couldn't, it made me want to cry.

In other unrelated news, we had dinner with hubby's mom yesterday. I also did not get a new phone. The girl "helping" us at T-Mobile last night pissed me off, she wasn't being helpful at all. If I want to keep my same number, since we are doing a "change of responsibility", there's all these things we have to do for that, ugh so annoying! I need to talk to my step dad and see what they told him. Hopefully I'll get a new phone tomorrow then, since today hubby has a boardgame date with a new friend he made. Time to entertain myself or be productive, toodles!

Gesso nightmare

I woke up this morning in a good mood, drank my coffee and started to de-clutter around the house because I was going to clean the bathroom, vacuum, mop the floors, do laundry, etc. I decided to put my gallon of gesso away in a closet so it wouldn't just be sitting in my living room, where my easel and paints are. Anyway...BAD idea! I have no idea how I must of picked it up, because the thing fell and opened and exploded all over the carpet and some furnisher!

I panicked, I didn't know what to do first so I started to scoop it up with my hands and into the bucket, then I went and got some wet rags and started picking up all the excess gesso off the carpet. It also splattered all over hubby's new leather chair, I got that too, after doing that several times, I got the steam cleaner and did that for like 10 times, all while praying that it would all come off. I also scrubbed with a brush and went over it with the steam cleaner. All I can say is, thank God for that steam cleaner, I managed to get it almost completely off, you can't really see anything.

Hubby called me and I told him, he wasn't too worried about it, but if he would have seen it, he would have flipped the hell out, I can already imagine it, screaming going on, crying, more screaming, oh no, it would have been very bad. I was still shaky by the time we ate lunch, it was horrible. I'm also sore already from doing it over and over.

All this happening with no AC! It officially stopped working last night. RIP 20 year old AC. They are coming Tuesday morning to give us an estimate on a new AC, so we'll see what happens then. We might need to go to my mother in law's house this weekend to escape from this heat. We'll never ever be debt free...ever.

Geez what a horrible experience. On the bright side, at least it wasn't a gallon of red or blue or black, or, ok any dark color of paint, instead it was just white gesso. Have a great and cool weekend, while I melt away in this heat.

Yummy dinner tonight

Well, not just tonight, usually the food we make is really good. A few days ago I got together with my friends Candice and Christie for dinner. We decided to eat breakfast food. I made my favorite french toast recipe, it's made with challah bread, and you pretty much make what looks like a pancake batter (egg, flour, melted butter, vanilla, sugar, milk). We also made scrambled eggs, bacon and corned beef hash, which reminded me of papas con chorizo, it was the first time I had ever tried it.

Tonight I picked out a really easy and yummy pasta dish. It had asparagus, olive oil, walnuts, spinach, blue cheese and penne pasta, topped with grated apple. It was so simple and delicious! Sorry I have no photos to prove this today.

PS: Males in their mid thirties should not have matching backpacks at work. And if that wasn't enough, they shouldn't take the wrong one home, leaving one stranded at work because the car keys were inside. Ha-ha! Sorry Hubby, it was just so funny and dorky at the same time.
