Cool Mom Picks had a Valentine's day card contest. Today was the last day to enter, I finished up my designs yesterday with lot's of technical help from my friendly friend Candice. The designs are so kids color them in themselves. Here's my two entries:

Elephant

This little elephant having tea and a yummy cupcake will be the newest addition to Sugar Village. I haven't been posting all of my new work on here, so make sure to check out the shop for new work. I added a sale section to the shop to try to make room for new paintings. Free shipping for any painting in the sale section. I hope you have a good week!

Before the day is over

I just wanted to say that I had a great day over at Sugar Village today! I sold a total of five paintings (three of them were custom, so I knew I would sell them, but still). I was so happy! I also have a commissioned painting I need to work on. I feel like things are finally picking up. I was getting disencouraged. I've been lacking photos on my posts lately, so here's one of the custom paintings I made for my friend:

Have a good week. And remember, don't give up!

Etsy's Baby Gift Guide

These gift guides are curated by Etsy staff and I just found one of my paintings in it! I'm a little excited :) I'm not sure how long they stay up, but here's the link to page 2 of the Baby Gift Guide.

**Update: My painting is no longer on there because it got sold :) **
**Update #2: Another one of my paintings is still in the baby gift guide**

Hi

I made this quick little painting last night. I guess I still have flowers on my mind ever since I made my new blog header. It was just something different to experiment with, trying to be a little more "loose".

My job hunting continues, with no success. No one is hiring and the jobs I do find on Craigslist, are mostly scams. It's really sad given the current economic situation that, people have time to post, what seems like a perfectly normal job, and then, turns out to be a scam. It's just wrong! People are desperate for jobs, stop wasting our time and making us believe they are real jobs.

I have six custom paintings to work on. I also went to the Orlando Museum of Art with my friend Candice today. We figured we should take advantage of being members. That museum kind of sucks, I wish we had a contemporary art museum. Well, that's it for now kiddos. Have a good evening!

Hello 2009!

I have abandoned this little blog of mine for a few days. I started writing an entry last night, but then a friend came over and we went to a new years eve party. I even drove! I'm still not comfortable driving all by myself though.

I've been pretty sad the past few days, I think I'm finally getting over it. We (mostly Mike), decided that we need to postpone trying to start our family until March or so, to see what happens with his job. He's worried that there may be layoffs. So the plan is for me to find a job and see what happens afterwards.

I know it's probably the responsible thing to do, but I just get so sad when things don't go the way I had planned them, especially having a baby. I wish my maternal instinct could have waited to kick in, because now that's all I can think about.

It also means that I probably won't have as much time to focus on my Etsy store. If I was selling around 2 paintings per day, maybe I wouldn't have to get a real job. I just hope I have time to continue painting once I find a job.

These are some of the changes or resolutions Mike and I have for this new year:

* I will now be in charge of the household budget.
* Start reading, and possibly attending, Shakespeare plays.
* Listen to classical music and learn about the composer a little bit.
* Start exercising by playing tennis, swimming and possibly yoga.
* Try to eat less desserts.

That's all I can think of for now, we've been pretty good with cooking healthy and natural. I painted this burrito yesterday, it reminds me of a picture I have when I was younger riding a donkey. Happy new year!!!

I wish this was me

I had a driving lesson this morning. I liked my instructor, he had very useful tips and was very professional, unlike the last school I took lessons from. I haven't practiced driving in a long time. So the problem is that I did pretty bad! I know I can drive better than that.

I feel like such an idiot, why is this so hard for me?! If really old people can do it, why can't I? I'm taking another lesson on Thursday, and, depending on how I do, we might go to the DMV and take the road test. He says unless I practice a lot tomorrow, I might need one more class to pass the test. So yeah, that's where we are right now.

I really wanted to buy some art prints from Etsy, from Christmas money I might receive, but now it'll have to go to pay for my lessons. So, any sales I make from Sugar Village, it'll go towards paying for driving lessons as well. Wish me luck driving.

Little updates

So, after my first loaf of homemade bread, we decide that we needed a cast iron dutch oven. The cheapest one we found was at Walmart (I hate Walmart btw), so we ordered it online and today, we finally picked it up at the store. Now I can continue making bread, like a good ole' housewife that I am.

I also received my prenatal vitamins in the mail. They are big and gross, ok maybe just big, but I'm having a hard time swallowing them. I should be taking 6 a day, but for now, I'll only take 4.

I leave in a week to Anaheim, CA to spend some time with my parents and also to spend thanksgiving together, hubby joins me on the 25th, I'm so excited!

I have 3 new paintings that need to be scanned. The one I'm showing you is a little different from the others, it's an idea I've had since I was in my silkscreen class.

I also re did the baby monkey painting but I hated it, so I did it again for the 3rd time. I finally liked it, BUT, I forgot the tail on one of the monkeys again! There's two monkeys on this one, at least one of them has one, ha ha. I give up on monkeys for a while.

Ok, have a good day!

I forgot the tail...again

I painted a baby monkey, but I forgot to paint his tail! So now it only looks like a bear-mouse creature thingie. It's the second time I forget to paint the tail on a monkey...ugh.

Not much going on here. Hubby and I have been researching prenatal vitamins and I think we finally agreed on a brand. I need to research insurances also, yuck, a bunch of grown up stuff I'm not used to.

Last night, I went out to a nice dinner with the Mr. and people from his work. We went to K Restaurant Wine Bar, it was quite lovely and very delicious. I even had a tiny buzz from all the wine he he.

Ok, I'll get back to my morning routine of coffee and reading blogs. Buen dia!

Custom work

I have these 3 little paintings ready to mail (click on the image to see them bigger). They are going to their new home in North Carolina. These are officially my first sell! woo hoo!

I'm still waiting to make some sells on the stuff I already have made, I'm getting a little disappointed. I need to give out more business cards. I did mail some business cards to two girls on Etsy that offered to put them in promo bags.

Anyway, off to make dinner with my hubby, a chicken and mushroom stew. Have a great week and don't forget to vote!

Friday

This week went by really fast, but then again, I think all of them do. I feel like I did many things this week, for example, I went to Leu Gardens with my friend Candice. I opened Sugar Village, I finally received hubby's birthday present, I bought an online game for our PS3 which I've become quite addicted to, but I suck at it, it's called PixelJunk Monsters.

And last but not least, I stopped taking my birth control pills! Hubby and I had always said we would have a baby once I was done with school, and well, we've been talking about it and we feel like the time has come. We won't start "trying" until a couple of months though...was that tmi? Oh well! hehe I'm excited and nervous at the same time, I hope that's normal.

I'm going to an arts and crafts show at Mount Dora tomorrow, that should be fun. I have 3 commissioned paintings involving elephants for a friend in North Carolina, I'll probably work on those on Sunday, when hubby abandons me to go play geeky boardgames. Have a good weekend! I'll leave you with a little farm painting I did a few weeks ago. Toodles

Grand Opening of...

It's here! I finally listed a few of my paintings on my new Etsy store called Sugar Village! I still have a few things I need to work on. I will list new paintings often, so be sure to check regularly to see new ones.

I'm very excited about doing this, I have so much to learn in the world of Etsy, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it in no time.

I want to thank my husband Mike, who motivates me and tells me how proud I make him for doing all this. Another special thanks goes to my best friend Candice, who always has positive critique, scans my paintings and helps me edit. Without them, I couldn't have done this...or at least not as easily, hee hee hee.

I hope you enjoy visiting Sugar Village as much as I enjoy working on it. Make sure to tell your friends and family about it, it would mean so much to me. Thank you!

And the weekend is gone

I didn't do much this weekend. Hubby went to play boardgames almost all day on Saturday. Today we went to the UCF library...twice. We had lunch, then went to Staples, where I bought some shipping labels. After that we went to the other library then grocery shopping. We've been playing the PS3 a lot! We'll probably watch a movie or something later.

My birthday is next Saturday! We bought the ingredients to make a chocolate layer cake with cream cheese frosting, we've never made that combination before. Candice and I are probably going to check out a class mates art show on Friday, and after that do a little birthday celebration downtown.

Last year for my birthday, it seemed like I had many friends, maybe because I was still in college, now they all seem to be too busy for me. I was also in New York City for my birthday, it was great. It's funny how much things change in a year. I was all into partying last year, this year I have babies on my mind...weird...

I received my rigid envelopes last week for my Etsy store and I get my clear envelopes and business cards tomorrow, I'm so excited to see how the business cards turned out. Anyway, here's another painting I did of the red birdie. Have a good week matey!

Almost there...

I finally ordered shipping supplies online for my Etsy store. I also ordered my business cards online, it's a little risky, since I don't know what the colors are going to look like, I'm just hoping for the best. Now I need to open a new checking account for my Paypal, that way it'll be more organized.

There's just a few more things I need to figure out, but I should be listing my items pretty soon. I'm a little nervous, because this is probably the worst time to try to start a little business, we shall see...
